The Craftsman

I've been a carpenter by trade for more than 25 years, specializing in custom homes around the Mount Desert Island region of Maine. While exploring the art library at the Farnsworth Museum in 2001, I discovered a primer on woodblock printmaking written by J.J. Lankes in 1930. It was not difficult to find a copy of my own at a used bookstore, and I began to research the medium, collect prints and books, and experiment at making my own.
